Church
of The Master United Church of Christ of
Florissant is an active, enthusiastic and diverse fellowship dedicated
to mission and spiritual growth. We practice OPEN COMMUNION.
We believe dedication to mission and spiritual growth enhances our
lives and the lives of the people we touch because it focuses us
outside of ourselves and gives us purpose and joy. We strive to create
a community of friendships. Members have long been active in caring
for the community by providing weekly get-togethers that feed the
Spirit with thoughts, songs, readings, quiet time and service to
the community and world. A preschool meets in our facility. Members
volunteer at a number of service providers that unite people including,
Neighborhood Houses,
St. John's Community Center, T.E.A.M. food pantry, Joint
Neighborhood Ministry, Habitat
for Humanity and more.
Church of The Master UCC was founded in 1956 - just
as the United Church of Christ (UCC) was formed by the merger of
two denominations
- the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian
Church. We embrace our U.C.C. slogan God is Still Speaking, which
emphasizes "No matter who you are or where you are
on life's journey, you are welcome here".
When the UCC's National Collegium in Cleveland challenged
us to engage in sacred conversations about race, Church of The
Master partnered
with Christ the King UCC, an African American UCC congregation in
Florissant. These conversations were sometimes uncomfortable, but
helped us face some of racism's realities. We also co-planned an
event titled, Getting to Know You, enjoyed by over 100, sharing each
other’s entertainment and personal stories. The UCC has a long
engagement in antiracism including the Racial Justice Ministry part
of our national structure.
Mostly we are the sum of our parts. We are the fellowship
groups and the groupings of people that take action to show God’s
love in the world. Explore our website and let us know how we would
be better than we are if you were here. Then come do it with us!
